AN ALL-ROUND SERVICE FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS IN PAZNAUN
The largest mountain bike area of the eastern Alps stretches from Ischgl to Samnaun in Switzerland across the entire Paznaun district. Moreover a perfect infrastructure with an all-round service for mountain bikers has been set up in the Silvretta Bike Arena. Ischgl provides practical services for cyclists ranging from cable car transfer to free road books and GPS data to download. So any lengthy planning and preparation of your mountain bike holiday - or tedious working out of your tours - is not necessary.Among mountain bikers, Ischgl is already well-known for the popular transalpine route over the legendary Fimba pass towards the south. Yet more and more mountain bikers like to linger in the Paznaun district between the Silvretta and Verwall mountain ranges. This is because a 1,100 kilometre network of routes has become a veritable Eldorado for mountain bikers here, as part of a unique all-round service. All that looking for trails and routes has become a thing of the past. At Ischgl all you need to do is select your tour recommendations, download your GPS data or get a cycling map, and pedal off straight away. Complete signposting along the route guarantees pure cycling pleasure, while six cable car systems carry cyclists up to an altitude of 2,800 metres. Free-ride, downhill and cross-country specialists benefit just as much from this service and leisure cyclists who want to sniff the mountain air without too much sweat. A professional bicycle academy with guides and a specialist mountain bike workshop, a problem-free bike and hire service along with bike hotels adapted to cyclists' requirements round off the perfect on-the-spot infrastructure.
An Alpine Eldorado for cyclists
Newcomers and hobby cyclists can brush up their cycling technique at the bicycle academy and cycling park before setting off along the heavenly trails through the Velill valley or over the panoramic route through the Fimba valley. But also ambitious mountain bike freaks can discover the ideal conditions for driving themselves to the limit on demanding single-track trails and rapid downhill rides - or, on top of all that, the network of routes also takes you along old smugglers' paths
from Austrian Ischgl over to Swiss Samnaun. For the toughest bikers however, the highpoint of the season must be the 16th Ischgl Ironbike event. 14th August 2010 is the starting shot for Europe's most highly endowed mountain bike race. "If you have never cycled the Ischgl Ironbike, then you don't know what a really hard race is like", said Massimo de Bertolis, winner of the 2007 event.
