The Pinnacle of Marathons

THE PINNACLE OF MARATHONS

The 36th international Silvretta-Ferwall Marathon in Galtür in Austria is one of the most demanding mountain runs in Europe - but it also has something on offer for pleasure seekers and families.

Ambitioned marathon runners can mark the 30 August 2009 as the highlight of the season in their calendar. Due to the alpine route, the international Silvretta-Ferwall Marathon in Galtür is recognised as being one of the most demanding and difficult runs - but also one of the most scenic.  This year's event offers separate routes for children and youths in addition to the marathon route and the half marathon distance. There are also three hiking categories for unhurried mountain lovers - including a family route, which is offered for the second time. In this way, pleasure-seekers, who are not interested in chasing seconds, can also enjoy the wonderful scenery. The start is between 7 and 11 am in Galtür, depending on the route. The entry fee is between 12 and 18 Euros.

Run, run, run

The marathon distance of 42.2 kilometres is considered to be one of the greatest challenges for ambitioned mountain runners. The challenge starts on Sunday at 7 am in Galtür. The route, leading over the Muttenjoch with an elevation of 2,600 metres and back to Galtür, features an altitude difference of 1,600 metres; the best runners complete the distance in around three hours. The half-marathon route is, indeed, only half as long (21.1 kilometres) but is by no means to be considered "a piece of cake". Prospective marathon runners can prepare optimally here and get a taste of some marathon action.  The half marathon starts at 11 am. There are additional routes ranging from 830 meters to 2.5 kilometres for children and youths.

Hiking worlds

Hikers participating in the Silvretta-Ferwall Marathon can choose between three different routes: The "Königin-Strecke" (The Queen's route), covering the marathon distance of 42.3 kilometres, the Ferwell route covering 28 kilometres and the 13.5 kilometre family route.  Enthusiastic kids can get their fill of hiking here. The start is arranged individually between 7 and 11 am. In addition, all participants and guests can enjoy the attractive supporting program and, of course, the award ceremony with musical entertainment in the finish area in Galtür.
