Hiking tours in See

Helpful tips and hints

You’re a mountain lover and experienced hiker? You love challenging tours, steep, rocky terrain and exposed sections? Or are you rather looking for a relaxed stroll together with your children on secured paths? No matter what you’re looking for – See has the perfect hiking tour for every taste and skill level:

Easy hiking trails are relatively easy hiking - & mountain trails that can be narrow and steep. There are no direct passages at risk of falling.

Moderate hiking trails are mostly narrow, often steep and can have passages at risk of falling. In addition, short insured walking passages (e.g., wire rope) can occur.

Difficult hiking trails are narrow, often steep and have passages at risk of falling. There are parts of assured walking passages and/or simple climbing spots that require the use of the
hands. Surefootedness and head for heights are essential.

Stay calm in an emergency and notify Mountain Rescue (Alpine emergency signal: 140)

  • Protect injured person against injuries from crash, falling rocks, avalanches, etc.
  • First Aid (breathing, circulation, stopping bleeding, splints etc.)
  • Protect injured person against injuries due to the effect of the weather (wind, rain, sun, etc.)
  • Never leave an injured person by themselves. Talking to them and providing support is essential for their survival.

Alpine emergency signal: at regular intervals, six times in one minute make a visual or acoustic signal – then pause for 1 minute –repeat, until you get a reply.

In the event that it is not possible to raise the alarm for help from the accident site: A messenger should make the descent to fetch assistance – but the injured party should never be left alone! If possible do not make the descent alone.

The messenger should have the following written details: Precise location of the accident, type of injury, Number of injured parties and uninjured parties in the group, they should also leave any clothing, rain gear and food they do not require for the injured party to use.

  • Be fit for the mountains, rather than looking to get “fit thanks to the mountains”.
  • Do not go mountain hiking without careful tour planning.
  • Bring the correct equipment and nothing you do not require for the tour planned.
  • Get information about the tour and the weather conditions.
  • Rest for 10 minutes every two hours.
  • Eat and drink plenty during the tour.
  • Never leave the signposted route!
  • Cut short the tour if there is any danger or if the weather conditions worsen.
  • Emergency equipment (First Aid box, a bivouac sack, pocket torch, mobile phone) should be in everyone‘s rucksack.
  • Stay calm in an emergency and notify Mountain Rescue (Alpine emergency signal: 140)

There’s no holiday for you without your dog? The Paznaun offers perfect conditions for a hiking holiday with your four-legged friend!

  • Check with your hotel whether dogs are allowed.
  • Not all hiking trails are suitable for dogs. Check the terrain of your tour in advance and carefully consider whether your dog will be able to walk the whole distance.
  • Make sure that there is plenty of water to drink for your dog along the trail or at mountain huts. If not, pack sufficient water for your dog!
  • Do you know how your dog reacts when coming across other animals (cows, dogs, etc.)?

An easy tour in the valley area, ideal for a warm-up or family excursion.

The route follows the valley circuit to Mathon (page 18) and continues on in the same direction into the valley and to the town of Galtür. Switching between asphalt paths and forest roads, the route always follows the sunny side of the valley through some typical Alpine meadows and fields and briefly through a forest. The last section above Galtür passes through some particularly unique landscapes. Following an old overgrown forest path with a trail-like character, you are treated to sensational views of the glaciated giant peaks of the Jamtal valley above the town. At the end of the town, you follow a downhill section to the valley cycle path which runs alone the Trisanna river back to Ischgl. Tip: if you have a bit of spare time, pay a visit to the unique Alpinarium museum experience.

Jamtal Tour 700. M

Through a long and solitary valley into the breath-taking high Alpine terrain.

From the start point in the centre, the route leads south and quickly comes to a road which runs into the Jamtal valley. The route back covers 10 km and approx. 600 m of altitude before reaching the destination at the Jamtalhütte lodge. The tour is accompanied throughout by fantastic views of the glaciated peaks in the Lower Jamtal valley. The landscapes of this peaceful valley are characterised by the typical Tyrolean Alpine farming and various grazing animals are a constant companion. Two of the Alpine lodges – the Menta-Alm and Scheibenalm – serve refreshments in summer and are perfect for topping up your energy levels. The tour to the lodge again follows some steeper sections so it is important not to underestimate the fitness level required. The Jamtalhütte lodge is part of the Swabia section of the German Alpine Association and is one of the most important support points for mountaineers, climbers and ski tourers in the Silvretta region.

STAGE 5 - THE RELAXING STAGE M
GPX Download KML Download

Today we take things a bit easier and the most leisurely stage awaits us, with 3.5 hours walking time. Nonetheless, there is still 850 metres altitude to negotiate before we reach our destination for today: Friedrichshafener Hütte.

From the centre of the village we head to the district of Außertschafein at 1560m and from here we follow the signposts for Friedrichshafener Hütte.

This route is really quite challenging from the Tyrol Flood and Avalanche Protection Services office (Amt der Tiroler Wildbach- und Lawinenverbauung).

Information boards have been put up at two sites, providing details about the vegetation, forestry and also the installation of avalanche barriers.

From this section we are in the Verwall group and inevitably we start to gaze in wonder at the side of valley opposite, which is located in the Samnaun group, where we were a few days ago. Upon reaching the footpath we enjoy a relaxing hike to Friedrichshafener Hütte which is situated at 2138m.

The sun shines for a long time in the evening on the routes we have already walked on - Rauher Kopf, Außerbergli, Innerbergli and the rest.

A challenging, high Alpine and very beautiful variation. Only recommended for highly experienced bikers.

All bikers who cycle up to the Heilbronner Hütte lodge, still have some energy left and have a thirst for adventure are recommended to try this attractive variation. Just behind the lodge, a single trail leads up some 200 m into the picturesque Ochsental valley. You may need to push your bike over some sections, depending on your fitness level and bike. The route then follows some pretty trails to the head of the valley and from the Ochsensenke to the Muttenjoch you will need to push or carry your bike over 300 m of elevation gain. The effort is well worthwhile and the views from the 2,620 m pass are astonishingly beautiful. The trail down from the Joch also presents a real challenge and anyone without 100% command of their bike will have to keep getting on and off. Trider Sattel I.7 E
GPX Download KML Download

A must for beginners and specialists! The focus is on biking fun and enjoyment but it is nevertheless possible to clock up some high speeds.

From the Alp Trider Sattel to the Alp Trida, it’s all about the finest flow riding fun! Once you get an initial taste of the trail feeling as a beginner, you will find yourself infected with trail fever! But experienced bikers too will immediately feel the flow of this single trail as they race down to the Alp Trida. Perfectly shaped jumps present an additional challenge. Leisure riders can slow down the tempo a little and therefore take away some of the difficulty of the jumps. There are several options from the Alp Trida: either tackle the Trider Sattel again or take the Alp Trider chairlift and try out the Alp Trida endurance trail (page 40). As an experienced cyclist, you can take the tricky and longer Schmuggler Trail (page 42) down into the valley. The spectacular ‘Twinliner’ double-decker cable railway will then take you back to the start.

Viderjoch I.8 E
GPX Download KML Download

Suitable for beginners and advanced riders for cycling fun of the highest calibre.

Viderjoch starts out from the ‘Flimjochbahn mountain station’ and offers magnificent views right from the outset. The route initially runs along a well-maintained trail across stony terrain. With both bends and straight sections in parts, you finally come to a forest road and can then turn off left onto the trail. After crossing the next forest trail, the route passes through some increasingly lush vegetation. The altitude gain completed becomes evident and you are sure to enjoy cruising across the ever greener meadows at this point. You will enjoy each bend with renewed momentum before you come to the Alp Trida. From here, there are several options: ambitious bikers can continue on the Duty Free Ride Laret-Samnaun (page 44). Alternatively, you could opt for the gentler ‘Trider Sattel’ trail (page 38, accessible via the Alp Trider chairlift) or take the Flimsattelbahn chairlift back to the start.

Duty Free Ride Laret Samnaun I.9a M
GPX Download KML Download

A downhill single trail covering some 600m of altitude, steep in parts, but manageable in technical terms. Good option for extending the route with the Viderjoch.

The Duty-Free Trail starts out from the Alp Trida and follows a brook. It is worth taking a break at the neighbouring small lake near the start to enjoy nature. This single trail then follows a relatively steep section down through beautiful terrain and plenty of fun! The route frequently crosses a forest road so there are lots of points where you can depart from the trail. The route covers just under 590m of altitude downhill to Laret. From here, cycle on to Ravaisch where the ‘Twinliner’ double-decker cable car runs up to the Alp Trider Sattel. It is here that the ‘Trider Sattel’ trail begins and leads back to the start.

Friedrichshafener Huetten Tour Nr. 7079 M
GPX Download KML Download

A classic uphill mountain biking route to one of the key Alpine Association support points in the Verwall mountains with an interesting downhill option.

Coming from Galtür, the tour starts out from the Piel car park where hikers heading for the Friedrichshafener Hütte can also park. Around 200 m above, those who started out in Ischgl join the route. There are a total of 16 bends to tackle along the relatively even ascent of the forest road to complete the 600 m of elevation gain up to the mountain lodge. Cyclists are rewarded with magnificent panoramic views of the various mountains in the Silvretta and Verwall chains. The descent then follows the same route as the ascent. Right at the beginning and towards the end respectively, there is an interesting and signposted trail version which requires a certain degree of biking skill (S2 on the single trail scale). Please only use the specially designated trails and leave all the other paths for hikers – thank you!

Heilbronner Huetten-Tour G.2 M
GPX Download KML Download

A strenuous but beautiful Alpine tour with a challenging variation for absolute experts.

From the centre of Galtür, the route runs along a moderately steep section up to the Zeinissee and Kopsstausee lakes. After a short stretch and a few metres of elevation gain, it’s time to follow the asphalt road down after the reservoir before a forest trail winds along numerus bends up towards the Heilbronner Hütte lodge. After cycling for a total of 10 km, you will come to the cosy Verbellaalpe lodge where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest and recharge your batteries before tackling the last ascent. The climb leads on up to the Heilbronner Hütte lodge and the last section in particular takes some doing due to the steep incline. After stopping off on the panorama terrace at the lodge, the descent either follows the same path back or you can choose the more adventurous G.3 variation via the Muttenjoch (page 60) or the very long and beautiful Schönverwall-Runde circular tour (page 28).
